My name is Fran and Iv'e been a furniture maker/cabinet maker for over 20 years. During that time I have worked in 4 different countries.
On my last trip I went to Canada and stayed there for over 7 years. Before the end of my stay myself and my girlfriend decided to do a once in a lifetime trip across Canada. We wanted to see as much of Canada as we could before we had to leave. So I converted a Dodge Grand Caravan into a little camper van and we went touring for 7 months.
It was on that epic adventure that I took some time out to re evaluate my life and career. I was just getting tired of the industry and how I was being treated in it so I needed a change. In the evenings I watched a lot of you tube videos when we we'rent going hiking or fishing. It was in those evenings that I came across some knife making videos. I'm an avid outdoors man and use knives frequently and decided that that could be an option as I love working with wood and metal and have always wanted to try leather work.
After extensive research on how and where to begin I came to the conclusion it was definitely a viable option for me. But I didn't want to be just any knife maker, I wanted to do something different, a break from the norm. With such a huge and varied culture here in Ireland I wanted to create something that could be incorporated from it, to be able to give somebody a little piece of our heritage and folklore to be handed down through generations to come.
I plan on making knives based on Irish folklore, myths and legends. From the Faeries to the Banshee and the rebellion to the peace treaty, I hope to create knives that represent those times in our culture for all to enjoy. Follow me on this unique journey............
